Description
Searching for the Glenlivet 21 “Archive”? This is it, in its current guise: The Glenlivet 21 Year Old, now released as The Sample Room Collection. It’s the distillery’s celebrated extra-aged Speyside single malt — the bottle Glenlivet’s own blenders reach for when they want to show what two decades of patience can do.
Each drop spends a full 21 years maturing in American oak ex-bourbon and sherry casks, building the smooth, honeyed, orchard-fruit character that made the Archive famous. From there it’s finished in a trio of remarkable casks — first-fill Oloroso sherry, French Troncais oak that once held Cognac, and vintage Colheita Port — each layering in extra richness and depth.
The result is luxurious. The nose offers dried orchard fruit, honeyed sweetness, citrus peel and soft spice; the palate is smooth and rounded, unfolding from brown sugar, honey and walnuts into dried fruits, Christmas cake and sweet baking spices. The finish is long and warming, with ginger, gentle oak dryness and a hint of chewy leather. Pour it neat, perhaps with a single drop of water, and take your time — this is a bottle for milestones, gifting and the quietest, best moments.
